Personal Development

“Children and young people need to know how to be safe and healthy, and how to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way”.  DfE

At St Ignatius Primary School, we aim to promote, adopt and embed a range of skills that allow children to be life-long learners.

We support children to acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to be successful members of the communities in which they live and to effectively manage their lives, now and in the future.

Our planned sequence of learning offers both explicit and implicit learning opportunities and experiences which reflect pupil’s’ increasing independence and physical and social awareness as they move through the school. It builds on the skills that pupils start to acquire during the Early Years Foundation Stage to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility and manage personal safety, including online.

At St Ignatius Primary, our Personal Development Curriculum helps children to manage the physical and emotional changes at puberty, introduces them to a wider world and enables them to make an active contribution to their communities.

The belief in the unique dignity of the human person made in the image and likeness of God underpins the approach to all education in a Catholic school.

Our approach to Personal Development therefore is rooted in the Catholic Church’s teaching of the human person and presented in a positive framework of Christian ideals.

The Personal Development Curriculum includes planned and sequenced opportunities for the children to learn about:

British Values

Equality (Protected Characteristics)

Health and well-being (Healthy bodies and healthy minds)

Living in the Wider World

Economic Well-being: Aspirations, work and careers

Economic Well-being: Money

Careers and Aspirations

At St. Ignatius Primary, we use the scheme ‘Ten Ten: Life to the full’ to support in the delivery of our RHE, PSHE and Personal Development Curriculum. Our Personal Development Curriculum includes the statutory content for RHE.

Further information about the ‘Ten Ten: Life to the Full’ scheme and RHE Catholic Life can be found at  RHE/PSHE | St Ignatius Catholic Primary School
